Day 1: Start Up!! SUP Training

June 26, 2016

Day 1: Start Up!! SUP Training.

Although the sky of Thailand was mostly covered by dark rain cloud, for the first day of SUP THAILAND AMBASSADOR 2016 Events, it looks like everything is on our side because the sky over Taco Lake was fresh and bright to welcome both our six brand ambassadors and staffs.

The first of all activities on June 8th, all of us have met 2 super world-class coaches as Daniel and Bruno. Both of them are brothers who have their zenith skill in Stand Up Paddle. Especially Daniel, the elder one, won the second runner-up of SUP WORLD TOUR, the greatest SUP competition program. In that time, he was just only 24. He is older than his brother, Bruno, just for 3 years.

SUP Thailand Ambassador

It’s the first time for our 6 ambassadors trying Stand Up Paddle sport.  This activity received the honored from our special guest, Khun Fah or Khun Phanpimol Fah Chongprasittipol, the ceo from SURFSET THAILAND. Besides her excellent ability in business management, Khun Fah used to be the Kite Board athlete. How masterful our special guest is, huh? Let’s see how fun it be.

When our brand ambassadors and special guest had introduced themselves and met both 2 coached, here come the crucial moment of being a great Stand Up Paddle player from the beginning. No matter what level the SUP players are, everyone has to learn from the basic. Coach Daniel goes through the basic with everyone. Started with explanation about board type for Stand Up Paddle playing that could be categorized into 5 types;

  1. Surf Board: smaller and shorter than other types of board. It can turn faster than other types of the board too. Suits for showing the style playing. However, it requires a lot of power of player to play this board.
  2. Inflatable Boards: thin board, suits for sightseeing paddling.
  3. Touring Board: a little bit thicker than Inflatable Boards. Suits for paddling along the river.
  4. Racing Board: twice thicker than Inflatable Boards. The rear part was designed for paddling along the rapid water or strong wave. The board is suited for speed paddling competition in every type of tides.
  5. Yoga Boards: wider and longer than other types of board. The board surface is soft. It is suited for yoga playing.

The width and length of the board are various and different from standard length as 7 feet up to 11 feet. The width and length of board depend on the playing style and Stand Up Paddle player skills.

Next board type, Daniel brought us deep down in the board components such as the fin, fin slot, and the board. The board fin is the most significant and to be focused part hence it helps support the direction of the board. The board without fin would make the paddling direction become circle. The most concern is not to let the fin break because Stand Up Paddle player could not control the board with the broken fin.

After that, daytime activities still focus on the key basics for Stand Up Paddle player such as how to get on and off the board, how to maintain and take care of the board. Includes warming up, exercising and increase self-confident in Stand Up Paddle player. During the time that coach Daniel and Bruno educate, our brand ambassador was very willing to learn. Might be said that not sleepy same as in the college.

The highlight of the day is visiting SUP production factory. Everyone was very excited to various types of Stand Up Paddle Board and their colors. Can’t stand to imagine they standing on the board along the river tide.

It’s quite intense for the first day of SUP THAILAND AMBASSADOR 2016. There will be a lot of learning, joy and activities waiting for the rest 5 more days.

Let’s see the next activity that everyone gets on the SUP and goes on their first ride. How much fun!!
